We have changed the MKC Slalom Race date to:  June 26th, 2015

Why?  Barry’s Bay just got the Ignite Grant (Pan AM Games community) partially due to MKC being the default site for Pan AM Games TO2015.  Barry’s Bay will be hosting a Parade down Main Street on June 27th. Thought it would be super cool to have all the Slalom paddlers in the parade.   This would be very appreciated locally, especially if we organize an event in town after the parade. We were thinking of a local participation Event on the Barry’s Bay beach: a ‘NOODLE SLALOM’ Saturday around noon – (after the parade) – that would see non paddlers paired up with Slalom paddlers – either in Slalom boats, or in Tandem canoes.

After Saturday’s events, racers could head to the Ottawa River to paddle, or directly to the Gull for a week long training camp before the Andrew Westlake Race

2015 Minden's Crazy Raft Race

Hi Whitewater Paddlers:

I am the Race Director for Minden’s Crazy Raft Race held every July 1st down the Gull river in Minden from the Rotary park to downtown Minden. We typically have between 15 and 25 rafts with up to 100 rafters on board. I am seeking a Kayaker or skilled canoeist who is willing to assist next July 1st.

The main responsibility would be to paddle alongside the lead rafts to monitor rafts and aid if any rafter falls into the river (all rafters must wear lifepreservers). Also, the race rules ask the leading rafts to stay within 4 raft lengths of the raft behind them (to avoid “runaway” winners), with a penalty of a 360’ turn. This requires enforcement.

My role has been to kayak behind the last raft to also provide assistance to stragglers, and to pick up any “flotsam” from the rafts.

There is also an opportunity to assist with the pre-race planning and organizing if there is someone interested in helping.

If anyone is interested, please contact me.

Best regards,

Bill Chadwick
