ORR/WO Open House-More Photos

Here are some additional photos from last week's WO/ORR Open House at the Pumphouse in Ottawa. Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson spent considerable time at the event and enjoyed his conversation with club members and Olympians Cam Smedley and Michael Tayler.

ORR/WO Open House a Great Success !

Open House a Great Success!

Whitewater Ontario and the Ottawa Rivers hosted an Open House this past Wednesday at Ottawa's Pumphouse.  We had a great turn out of kids and parents from the ORR summer programs, our National Junior & U23 team, and our two Olympians Cam Smedley and Michael Tayler. We are were very happy to have Meredith Brown from Ottawa Riverkeeper attend as well as Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson who spent nearly an hour on site speaking with Cam and Michael and other paddlers and executive members.

Thanks to John Hastings for arranging the Sport Yaks that were busy all evening with Seamus and Andrew (and perhaps others) providing rides down the Pumphouse.

Cam and Michael had a chance to speak about their Olympic experience and Mayor Watson had the pleasure of presenting them with two banners which will be displayed in our new clubhouse. ORR President Doug Corkery provided the audience with an update on the construction of the new clubhouse which generated a lot of excitement and interest from everyone. Kathleen Tayler described our upcoming FUNdamentals kayaking program with WO Coach Anthony Colin.

It was a great night! The interest and enthusiasm expressed by both parents and prospective paddlers was very evident and both ORR and WO have a great opportunity to grow the sport and build participation levels in our programs. It was also an evening which saw some of our long time ORR members come out and be part of the excitement.

A final thank you to WO Coach Anthony Colin for coming up with the idea for the Open House. We are already generating ideas for next year.

Here's a sample of some of the photos from last night thanks to Liam Smedley. More coming.
